Power, Language, and Meaning: A Workshop on Discourse Analysis
This workshop explores the critical role of discourse in shaping meaning, ideology, and identity across various contexts. Participants will engage with foundational theoretical perspectives—structuralism, poststructuralism, and sociolinguistics—by examining key contributions from scholars such as Saussure, Foucault, Derrida, and Butler. The first 45 munutes will provide an in-depth lecture on theoretical frameworks, focusing on how discourse constructs power dynamics and influences perception. The second half of the workshop transitions into hands-on application, where participants analyze real-world texts and media narratives, applying discourse analysis methodologies to uncover deeper meanings and social implications. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with analytical tools to engage with language in academic and professional settings critically.
