Integrating Equity into Assessment Practice

Equity-centered assessment goes beyond measuring student learning; it actively dismantles systemic barriers and discrimination to allow diverse learners to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.   This workshop discusses the key principles of equity-centered assessments and implementation strategies.  Participants will critically examine their current assessment practices and identify practical methods and insights to cultivate inclusive and equitable assessments that truly reflect the learning of all students.
 

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine their assessment practices in light of the key principles of equity-centered assessments.

  2. Identify strategies for implementing equity-centered assessments 

  3. Propose an action plan to promote equity-centered assessment practices in their educational settings​

Christine Joy A. Ballada, PhD &
Marife M. Mamauag, PhD

Dr. Christine Joy A. Ballada is an Associate Professor at the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at De La Salle University, Manila (DLSU).  She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Measurement and Evaluation from DLSU.  She is the Vice-President of the Philippine Educational Measurement and Evaluation Association (PEMEA), the country’s leading professional organization committed to advancing the theory and practice of high-quality educational assessment, measurement, and evaluation. 


Dr. Marife M. Mamauag is the Director for University Research and Publication at Liceo de Cagayan University. She served as Assessment Consultant and Senior Lecturer at HELP University in Malaysia, Director of the Center for Learning and Performance Assessment at De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, and Research Consultant for APSA, Inc. A founding trustee of PEMEA, Inc., she also chairs its Test Development Division. Dr. Mamauag holds a PhD in Educational Psychology and a Master’s of Science in Educational Measurement & Evaluation from De La Salle University. With over 30 years of experience in assessment and research, she has led the development of more than 20 standardized educational and psychological tests.
